Animal navigation

Animal navigation has been affected by human encroachment. The goal of this project is to test the hypothesis that the navigational systems have been affected by human-influenced landscapes. Understanding the cognitive reasoning behind animals’ navigation choices can reduce human-wildlife conflicts and enable better landscape management to support coexistence between wildlife and humans. The general hypothesis of this work is that animal navigation is affected by the human geographic concept of landscapes of fear. This project uses GIScience approaches to integrate empirical field observations, geo-located data, satellite imagery, landscape features, and mixed models to elucidate the role of hunting in the navigation strategies of primate species
